Describe uPVC Plaster Stop bead

General Introduction to Stop Beads and uPVC Stop Beads

Finishing beads are construction accessories designed to make finishing work faster, more accurate and more visually refined while helping reduce installation errors. They can be manufactured from various materials, including galvanized steel, stainless steel and uPVC.

uPVC finishing beads are engineered uPVC profiles available in different shapes for building-finishing applications such as plastering, rendering, tiling and puttying.

Stop beads are profiles made from materials such as galvanized steel, stainless steel, uPVC or aluminium. They are used in plastering, rendering and tiling to form accurate termination points at the ends of plaster, render or tile finishes.

uPVC stop beads are manufactured from uPVC and typically feature a T-shaped profile with a perforated flange for secure bonding. They are used at the termination points of plaster, render or tile finishes, helping accelerate installation, reduce workmanship errors and create a neat, refined and user-safe finish.

Types of uPVC Stop Beads

Small HAN uPVC stop bead PPS0120 Large HAN uPVC stop bead PPS0150
Small uPVC stop beads, with stop depths of 10–15 mm, are mainly installed vertically. They form a separation between the plaster or render and door-frame edges, helping reduce defects at junctions between different materials. Large uPVC stop beads, with stop depths of 15–35 mm, are mainly installed horizontally. They are commonly used at wall bases and stair bases to provide ventilation and help limit capillary moisture penetration.

Functions of uPVC Stop Beads

HAN uPVC Stop Beads provide the following benefits:

  • Help reduce workmanship defects and shrinkage cracking at junctions between plaster or render and other materials, such as door edges, partition frames and steel columns.
  • Help limit capillary moisture penetration between the floor and the plastered wall or stair base.
  • Create accurate, neat and visually refined internal or external edges at plaster and render termination points.
  • Provide well-defined, user-safe edges that are easy to clean.
  • Make wall plastering and rendering faster and more accurate.
  • Add clean, refined architectural lines to the finished building.

General Introduction to PVC, uPVC and Engineered uPVC

uPVC stop beads are manufactured from uPVC, also known as PVC-U. The full name of uPVC is unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. It is a rigid form of PVC that contains no plasticizers. Its rigidity gives uPVC enhanced mechanical, physical and chemical properties compared with conventional PVC.

HAN engineered uPVC is researched and developed from a uPVC base formulation, with its mechanical, physical and chemical properties adapted to the requirements of different construction applications.

HAN uPVC Stop Beads are made from engineered uPVC to provide enhanced rigidity, toughness, resilience, surface gloss, colour stability and chemical resistance, making them suitable for plastering, rendering and tiling applications.

HAN uPVC Stop Beads are safe for installers and building users and are easy to clean.

Under normal ambient conditions, the service life of HAN uPVC Stop Beads is compatible with that of the surrounding plaster or render.

How to Select and Use HAN uPVC Stop Beads

To achieve high technical and economic efficiency when using HAN uPVC Stop Beads for plastering and rendering, customers should consider the following:

No. Item Points to Consider What to Avoid
1 Product code Identify and confirm the correct HAN product code when the project specification is already available.
2 Profile design Select the appropriate profile: smaller sizes for separating plaster or render from door-frame edges, and larger sizes for wall-base applications. Do not select a lower-cost profile while overlooking installation requirements, in-service performance or appearance.
3 Size Select a stop depth compatible with the required plaster or render thickness.
4 Standard length For small quantities, use HAN standard lengths of 2 m, 2.5 m or 3 m. For large projects, custom-cut lengths can help reduce offcuts and costs. Avoid unnecessary surplus, material waste and additional installation costs.
5 Quantity Confirm the required quantities and specifications and include a reasonable allowance for installation waste.
6 Order timing Ensure the products are available in the site warehouse before installation begins so that the construction schedule is not affected. Avoid ordering too close to the installation date.
7 HAN brand identification Purchase from an authorized distributor or directly from HAN. Genuine packaging should clearly display HAN information, including the product code, address and telephone number. Packaging without clear HAN factory information may not contain genuine HAN products.
8 Responsible personnel Personnel with suitable technical knowledge and experience should work directly with HAN's technical advisory team before making a purchasing decision.
9 Installation method Follow HAN's installation instructions in full. Completely bed the bead in mortar, use a suitable plaster or render thickness, and secure the profile firmly at the correct level to achieve the best technical and visual result. For product codes supplied with temporary protective film, remove the film at the appropriate stage to preserve surface quality.
10 Storage method Follow the recommended transportation and storage instructions to maintain product quality before installation.

Correct Transportation and Storage of HAN uPVC Finishing Beads

Transportation precautions:

  • Do not drag cartons across the ground or throw them from a height.
  • Do not keep cartons tilted or upright for extended periods.
  • Use a truck with a flat bed and a covered cargo area or waterproof tarpaulin to protect the products from rain.
  • When transporting different bead types in the same vehicle, place longer and heavier cartons underneath shorter and lighter cartons.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp objects on the cartons. Ensure that the cartons are not bent, distorted or punctured during transportation.
  • Handle cartons correctly during loading and unloading to prevent tearing, bending or distortion.

Storage precautions:

  • Store indoors on pallets in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area. Keep away from direct sunlight, water, soil, mud, moisture, mould and high temperatures.
  • Do not store cartons upright. Individual beads should not be kept upright or leaning for extended periods, as this may cause deformation.
  • When products are not in use, clean them and return them to their cartons to protect them from dust and preserve their colour, smoothness and gloss.
  • Do not turn cartons upside down. Store each carton in the correct orientation as indicated by the directional arrows on the packaging.

Quality Standards for HAN uPVC Stop Beads

HAN uPVC Stop Beads comply with the following relevant standards and requirements:

  • ASTM D638, ASTM D790, ASTM D1525 and ASTM D648.
  • Relevant requirements of applicable Vietnamese building standards (TCVN).
  • Quality uPVC finishing beads must satisfy the criteria below.
Black HAN uPVC stop beads PPS0120 and PPS0150 White HAN uPVC stop bead PPS0120W
