uPVC finishing beads are engineered uPVC profiles available in different shapes for building-finishing applications such as plastering, rendering, tiling and puttying.
Stop beads are profiles made from materials such as galvanized steel, stainless steel, uPVC or aluminium. They are used in plastering, rendering and tiling to form accurate termination points at the ends of plaster, render or tile finishes.
uPVC stop beads are manufactured from uPVC and typically feature a T-shaped profile with a perforated flange for secure bonding. They are used at the termination points of plaster, render or tile finishes, helping accelerate installation, reduce workmanship errors and create a neat, refined and user-safe finish.

General Introduction to PVC, uPVC and Engineered uPVC
uPVC stop beads are manufactured from uPVC, also known as PVC-U. The full name of uPVC is unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. It is a rigid form of PVC that contains no plasticizers. Its rigidity gives uPVC enhanced mechanical, physical and chemical properties compared with conventional PVC.
HAN engineered uPVC is researched and developed from a uPVC base formulation, with its mechanical, physical and chemical properties adapted to the requirements of different construction applications.
HAN uPVC Stop Beads are made from engineered uPVC to provide enhanced rigidity, toughness, resilience, surface gloss, colour stability and chemical resistance, making them suitable for plastering, rendering and tiling applications.
HAN uPVC Stop Beads are safe for installers and building users and are easy to clean.
Under normal ambient conditions, the service life of HAN uPVC Stop Beads is compatible with that of the surrounding plaster or render.

Correct Transportation and Storage of HAN uPVC Finishing Beads
Transportation precautions:
- Do not drag cartons across the ground or throw them from a height.
- Do not keep cartons tilted or upright for extended periods.
- Use a truck with a flat bed and a covered cargo area or waterproof tarpaulin to protect the products from rain.
- When transporting different bead types in the same vehicle, place longer and heavier cartons underneath shorter and lighter cartons.
- Do not place heavy or sharp objects on the cartons. Ensure that the cartons are not bent, distorted or punctured during transportation.
- Handle cartons correctly during loading and unloading to prevent tearing, bending or distortion.
Storage precautions:
- Store indoors on pallets in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area. Keep away from direct sunlight, water, soil, mud, moisture, mould and high temperatures.
- Do not store cartons upright. Individual beads should not be kept upright or leaning for extended periods, as this may cause deformation.
- When products are not in use, clean them and return them to their cartons to protect them from dust and preserve their colour, smoothness and gloss.
- Do not turn cartons upside down. Store each carton in the correct orientation as indicated by the directional arrows on the packaging.

In building finishing works, plastering and rendering are among the most important activities affecting construction quality and providing the foundation for the appearance of subsequent decorative finishes.
Finishing plaster terminations and junctions between plaster and other materials requires accurate workmanship, professional installation techniques and appropriate technical detailing to achieve straight, even and precise edges that resist cracking and moisture penetration while maintaining a high-quality appearance.
When plaster edges, terminations and material junctions are formed using conventional methods without uPVC Stop Beads, the following problems may occur:
- Cracks may develop at junctions between plastered walls and door-frame edges due to material shrinkage. Door casings or cover trims are commonly used to conceal these cracks, but they may create uneven or projecting surfaces that are less attractive, difficult to clean and lack architectural definition.
- Internal junctions between plastered walls and floors may be affected by rising damp through capillary action because the plaster is in direct contact with the floor. Waterproofing and tiled skirting are commonly used, but tiled skirting alone may not completely resolve the problem.

- Select the appropriate stop bead profile for the application: PPS0150, the larger profile, is suitable for plaster terminations at wall bases and stair bases; PPS0120, the smaller profile, is suitable for separating plastered surfaces from door-frame edges.
- Select a bead size suitable for the plaster thickness and intended application. The bead height should not exceed the thickness of the plaster layer.
- Choose a suitable colour according to the design and aesthetic requirements. The three standard colours are white, red and grey. White is recommended for stop beads at wall bases to create a clean and spacious appearance. Black or grey may be used at junctions with door frames to create a refined technical accent line.
- Where possible, select beads with temporary protective film to accelerate installation and achieve a cleaner finished appearance.
- Level and clean the substrate thoroughly before installation. Dampen the surface to improve adhesion.
- Prepare suitable setting-out and levelling tools. A laser level can accelerate installation by simultaneously aligning multiple vertical and horizontal edges within the same area.
- Use a specialized cutting tool to produce clean, accurate joints. Pay particular attention to 90° intersections to achieve a neat and visually consistent finish.
- Secure the bead firmly using mortar or screws. Do not drive nails into the exposed face of the bead, as this may damage its appearance.
- Clean the completed surface at the appropriate time and remove the protective film when suitable to preserve the quality and appearance of the bead.
- Store unused beads properly in accordance with HAN’s storage instructions.
