Describe uPVC Edge Tile Trim bead

General Introduction to Tile Edge Trims and uPVC Tile Edge Trims

Finishing trims are building products that help improve the speed, accuracy and appearance of finishing work while reducing installation errors. They can be manufactured from various materials, including galvanized steel, stainless steel and uPVC.

uPVC finishing trims are technical uPVC profiles available in a variety of designs for finishing applications such as plastering, rendering, tiling and puttying.

Tile edge trims are manufactured from materials such as galvanized steel, stainless steel, uPVC and aluminium. They are used in tiling applications to reduce installation errors at exposed tile edges.

uPVC tile edge trims are manufactured from uPVC and are available with rounded, square or chamfered edges. They provide a quick, accurate and refined finish to tiled edges while improving safety for users.

Functions of uPVC Tile Edge Trims

uPVC tile edge trims are used in ceramic and stone tiling applications to:

  • Create accurate, refined and attractive internal and external tile corners.
  • Produce well-defined edges that are safer for users and easier to clean.
  • Accelerate installation and reduce errors when finishing tiled corners and edges.
  • Eliminate the need to mitre tile edges at corners, helping reduce material and labour costs.
  • Allow easier repair and replacement during use, helping reduce maintenance costs.
  • Make the installation of tiled corners and edges easier for construction workers.

General Introduction to PVC, uPVC and Technical uPVC

uPVC tile edge trims are manufactured from uPVC, also known as PVC-U. The full term is unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. It is a form of PVC that contains no plasticizers and is therefore commonly referred to as rigid PVC. Its rigidity gives uPVC enhanced mechanical, physical and chemical properties compared with conventional PVC.

HAN technical uPVC is researched and developed from a uPVC base formulation, with its mechanical, physical and chemical characteristics adapted to the requirements of different construction applications.

uPVC tile edge trims made from technical uPVC provide enhanced rigidity, toughness, elasticity, surface gloss, colour stability and chemical resistance, making them suitable for tiling applications.

uPVC tile edge trims are safe for installers and end users when used correctly.

Under normal ambient and climatic conditions, the service life of uPVC tile edge trims is compatible with that of the installed tiles.

How to Select and Use uPVC Tile Edge Trims for Tiled Edges

To achieve the best technical, aesthetic and economic results when using uPVC tile edge trims, customers should consider the following:

No. Item Points to Consider What to Avoid
1 Product code Where the installation specification has already been established, identify and confirm the correct HAN product code.
2 Design Select a suitable profile: rounded, square or chamfered, and open or closed as required. Do not select a lower-cost profile without considering installation requirements, service conditions and appearance.
3 Size Ensure that the trim height is compatible with the tile thickness. As a general guide: trim height = tile thickness + 1 mm.
4 Length For small quantities, use HAN standard lengths of 2 m, 2.5 m or 3 m. For large projects, custom-cut lengths can help minimize offcuts and unnecessary costs. Avoid ordering unsuitable lengths that create excessive waste and increase installation costs.
5 Quantity Confirm the required quantities and specifications, and include a reasonable allowance for cutting losses and wastage.
6 Ordering time Ensure the products are available in the site warehouse before installation begins so that construction progress is not affected. Avoid placing orders too close to the installation date, as this may delay the work.
7 HAN brand identification Contact an authorized distributor or purchase directly from HAN. The packaging should clearly display HAN information, including the product code, address and telephone number. Products supplied in packaging that does not clearly identify the HAN factory may not be genuine HAN products.
8 Responsible personnel Personnel with appropriate knowledge and experience should consult directly with HAN's technical advisory team before making a purchasing decision.
9 Installation method Follow HAN's installation instructions, including fully bedding the trim, selecting a suitable tile and adhesive thickness, and securing the trim firmly at the correct level. For products with temporary protective film, remove the film at the appropriate stage to preserve the finished surface.
10 Storage Follow the recommended transport and storage procedures to keep the products in good condition before installation.

To achieve the best finish, remove the temporary protective film at the appropriate time—after installation, cleaning and all related finishing work have been completed. This helps protect the trim surface until the area is ready for use.

Correct Transport and Storage of uPVC Finishing Trims

Transport recommendations for HAN uPVC finishing trims:

  • Do not drag cartons along the ground or throw them down from a height.
  • Do not leave cartons leaning or standing vertically for extended periods.
  • Use a truck with a flat loading platform and a covered cargo area or waterproof tarpaulin to protect the products from rain.
  • When transporting several types of trim in the same vehicle, place longer and heavier cartons underneath, with shorter and lighter cartons on top.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp objects on the cartons. Prevent cartons from being bent, warped or punctured during transport.
  • Handle cartons correctly during loading and unloading to prevent tearing, bending or deformation.

Storage recommendations for HAN uPVC finishing trims:

  • Store indoors on pallets in a dry, elevated and well-ventilated area. Keep away from direct sunlight, water, soil, mud, moisture, mould and high temperatures.
  • Do not store cartons vertically. Individual trims should not be left upright or leaning for long periods, as this may cause bending.
  • When trims are not required for immediate use, clean and repack them in their cartons to prevent dust accumulation and preserve their colour and surface gloss.
  • Do not turn cartons upside down. Store them in the orientation indicated by the directional arrows on the packaging.

Quality Standards for uPVC Tile Edge Trims

HAN uPVC tile edge trims comply with the following relevant standards and requirements:

  • ASTM D638, ASTM D790, ASTM D1525 and ASTM D648.
  • Applicable requirements of current Vietnamese construction standards (TCVN).
  • Quality uPVC finishing trims should satisfy the criteria below.
Closed round-edge uPVC tile trim PRT0120W Grey square-edge uPVC tile trim PST012SG
The mechanical, physical and chemical properties of the uPVC must satisfy installation, bonding and service requirements for tiled finishes. The finished trim must have a flat, straight and uniform appearance and conform to the specified dimensions.
