General Introduction to Drip Beads and uPVC Drip Beads

Finishing beads are construction accessories designed to make finishing works faster, more accurate and visually refined while reducing installation errors. They can be manufactured from various materials, including galvanized steel, stainless steel, uPVC and aluminium.

uPVC finishing beads are engineered uPVC profiles available in various designs for building finishing works, including plastering, rendering, tiling and skim-coat application.

Drip beads are manufactured from materials such as stainless steel, uPVC or aluminium. They are used in plastering and rendering to form rainwater drip grooves beneath balconies, gutters, canopies, loggias and lintels.

uPVC Drip Beads are manufactured from engineered uPVC with a purpose-designed profile that forms both an accurate drip groove and a straight finishing edge. Installed at the termination edges beneath balconies, gutters, canopies, lintels and loggias, they create a straight, uniform and visually refined groove that helps rainwater drip away quickly.

uPVC Drip Beads may also be known as water-stop beads, drip trims, water-drip trims, rainwater drip profiles, balcony drip beads or similar regional names. Although these terms may not fully describe the features and quality of HAN uPVC Drip Beads, they are commonly used by some customers, engineers and contractors.

Types of uPVC Drip Beads

A uPVC Drip Bead designed with a rounded recessed channel and an accurately formed external edge at the termination of a plaster or render layer. It creates a straight, uniform and visually refined drip groove beneath balconies, gutters, canopies, loggias and lintels. A recessed uPVC Groove Bead with an accurately formed U- or V-shaped channel. When used as a drip bead, it creates a straight, uniform and visually refined rainwater drip groove beneath balconies, gutters, canopies, loggias and lintels.

Functions of uPVC Drip Beads

uPVC Drip Beads provide the following functions:

  • Create a rainwater drip groove while forming an accurately defined external edge at the termination of plaster or render beneath balconies, gutters, canopies, loggias and lintels.
  • Form a recessed groove of consistent dimensions in the plastered or rendered surface, helping rainwater drip away quickly from balconies, gutters, canopies, loggias and lintels.
  • Create a straight, uniform, refined and visually attractive external edge at the termination of plaster or render.
  • Help reduce cracking and edge chipping around the drip groove and plaster termination, thereby reducing post-installation maintenance costs.
  • Accelerate drip-groove installation, reduce labour costs and improve construction progress through a purpose-designed profile.
  • Provide a recessed design that drains water efficiently, collects less dust and is safer and easier to clean.
  • Create a subtle architectural line in addition to the primary function of directing rainwater away from the finished surface.
  • Reduce the effort required by construction workers when forming drip grooves and plaster termination edges.

General Introduction to PVC, uPVC and Engineered uPVC

uPVC Drip Beads are manufactured from uPVC, also known as PVC-U. The full name of uPVC is “Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride”. It is a rigid form of PVC that contains no plasticizers. This rigidity gives uPVC enhanced mechanical, physical and chemical properties compared with conventional flexible PVC.

HAN develops engineered uPVC from a uPVC base formulation and adds specific mechanical, physical and chemical performance characteristics to suit different construction applications.

HAN uPVC Drip Beads are made from engineered uPVC to provide enhanced rigidity, toughness, elasticity, surface gloss, colour stability and chemical resistance, making them suitable for interior and exterior plastering and rendering applications.

HAN uPVC Drip Beads are safe for installers and building users when used as intended. Their surfaces resist moss accumulation and are easy to clean.

The service life of HAN uPVC Drip Beads is compatible with that of plastered and rendered finishes under normal ambient and climatic conditions.

Selecting and Using uPVC Drip Beads for Balconies, Lintels, Loggias, Gutters and Canopies

To achieve the best technical, economic and aesthetic results when using uPVC Drip Beads at plaster and render terminations beneath balconies, gutters, lintels, loggias and canopies, customers should consider the following:

2 Design

Select a design and colour suitable for the application.

Do not select a lower-cost design without considering installation requirements, performance and finished appearance.
3 Size The plaster or render thickness must be compatible with the bead height. The finished layer should be approximately 1 mm thicker than the bead height.  
4 Standard lengths For small quantities, use HAN’s standard lengths of 2, 2.5 or 3 metres. For high-volume projects, custom-cut lengths can reduce offcuts, material waste and unnecessary costs. Avoid ordering unsuitable lengths that create excessive offcuts, material waste and additional installation costs.
5 Quantity Determine the required quantities and specifications accurately and include a reasonable allowance for cutting waste.  
6 Order lead time Make sure the products are available in the site warehouse before installation begins to prevent delays to the construction programme. Avoid placing orders too close to the installation date, as this may affect the construction schedule.
7 HAN product identification Purchase from an authorized distributor or directly from HAN. The packaging should clearly display HAN’s product code, address and telephone number. Products in packaging that does not clearly display HAN’s factory information may not be genuine HAN products.
8 Responsible personnel Personnel with suitable technical knowledge and experience should consult directly with HAN’s technical advisory team before making purchasing decisions.  
9 Installation method Follow HAN’s installation instructions: fully bed the bead in mortar, apply a suitable plaster or render thickness, set the profile at the correct line and level, and secure it firmly to achieve the best performance and appearance. For product codes supplied with temporary protective film, remove the film at the appropriate time to preserve the finished surface.  
10 Storage method Follow the recommended transport and storage procedures to maintain product quality before installation.

To achieve a high-quality finish, remove the temporary protective film at the appropriate time after installation, cleaning and completion of all related works. This helps protect the bead surface until the finished area is ready for use.

Correct Transport and Storage of HAN uPVC Finishing Beads

Transport recommendations for HAN uPVC Finishing Beads:

  • Do not drag cartons along the ground or throw them from a height.
  • Do not leave cartons standing vertically or leaning for extended periods.
  • Use a vehicle with a flat loading platform and a covered cargo area or tarpaulin to protect the products from rain.
  • When transporting different bead types in the same vehicle, place longer and heavier cartons underneath and shorter and lighter cartons on top.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp objects on the cartons. Make sure the cartons are not bent, distorted or punctured during transport.
  • Handle cartons correctly during loading and unloading to prevent tearing, bending or deformation.

Storage recommendations for HAN uPVC Finishing Beads:

  • Store indoors on pallets in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area. Protect the products from direct sunlight, water, soil, mud, moisture, mould and high temperatures.
  • Do not store cartons vertically. Individual beads should not be stored upright or leaning for extended periods, as this may cause them to bend.
  • When the products are not in use, clean and repack them in their cartons to protect them from dust and preserve their colour, smoothness and gloss.
  • Do not turn cartons upside down. Keep them in the orientation indicated by the arrows printed on the packaging.

  • Relevant requirements of the current Vietnamese construction standards (TCVN).

Nẹp này cắt nước nhanh chóng hơn chỉ nước và ít đóng rêu. Nhưng khi định vị nẹp cần ghém no vữa để thanh nẹp cứng chắc, không bị bộp. Thi công nhanh và đẹp hơn, sang hơn đáp chỉ nước thủ công nhiều.

Một số anh em kỹ sư còn gọi nó là: nẹp ngắt nước. nẹp chỉ ngắt nước, chỉ ngắt nước, gờ cắt nước mưa, nẹp cắt nước, chỉ nước ban công,... Nhưng tên gọi đúng nghĩa, đúng kỹ thuật, đúng nội dung, đúng công năng vẫn là: "Nẹp hoàn thiện khe ngắt nước uPVC"
